A 45 year old Canadian woman was killed Wednesday morning on US Highway 14A 8 miles west of Burgess Junction.

Wyoming HIghway Patrol spokesman Steve Townsend says the victim, Nina Fonger of Saskatchewan, Canada, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound lane of the highway behind two other motorcyclists, when some deer began to cross the road.

Townsend says the first two riders used hand signals to alert Fonger of the hazard.  Fonger applied the brakes on her motorcycle and locked up the rear wheel.  This caused Fonger to lose control of the motorcycle and it overturned onto its right side sliding across the center line into the westbound lane.

Townsend says 58 year old Louis Lefebvre, who was westbound pulling a camper trailer, saw the motorcycle/rider coming into his lane of travel and attempted to brake.  Fonger and her motorcycle struck the driver's side front tire and running board of Lefebvre's pickup.

After impact Fonger was separated from the motorcycle and both came to rest in the eastbound lane of travel.  Lefebvre was able to stop his combination in a controlled final stop in the westbound lane of travel.  The crash caused a temporary road closure of US 14A for approximately 2 hours.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:30 am Wednesday and Fonger was declared dead at 12:44 pm. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
