CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A 24-year-old Lander man convicted of shooting his cousin to death and of sexually assaulting his cousin's fiancee has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

According to an Associated Press report, John Thomas Hereford was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years to life on second-degree murder and kidnapping charges. He also will serve 45 to 50 years for the sexual assault, but the sentences will run concurrently

Hereford was charged in the Sept. 11, 2012, death of 32-year-old Travis Armajo of Lander. He also is accused of confining Armajo's fiancee and sexually assaulting her. Authorities say the sexual assault happened shortly after the shooting.
