A man is dead following a head-on collision 15 miles west of Laramie Sunday afternoon.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Simmons says the victim was driving his pickup west on Highway 230 around 3:00 p.m., when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and collided with an oncoming semi.

"Both the semi truck and the Nissan Frontier erupted into flames," said Simmons. "The semi truck was hauling a tank full of crude oil, luckily that did not rupture."

Simmons says the driver of the semi was uninjured, but the front half of the pickup was severely destroyed and the driver burned to death.

"The body almost had no clothing left on it because of the fire, so it makes identifying the driver rather difficult," said Simmons. "There were no documents that survived, like an insurance registration or driver's license. We assume that his wallet was burned up as well."

Simmons says road conditions at the time of the crash were dry.

"It was cold, but it wasn't even windy," said Simmons. "So environmental conditions had nothing to do with this crash."

The Albany County Coroner's Office is waiting on a forensic dentist from Torrington to conduct an exam on the body before confirming the victim's identity.
