Lummis Joins Repulicans in Calling for Holder’s Resignation

On Friday, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis joined 48 members of the House in filing H. Res 35, expressing no confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder and calling for his immediate resignation. The resolution comes in reaction to the botched operation “Fast and Furious,” under which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms authorized thousands of rifle sales to known or suspected straw purchasers but then failed to track the weapons after the sale.    The controversial “gun-walking” tactic failed to stop the illegal flow of guns to violent drug cartels and other criminals.  Two of the weapons allowed to “walk” in the operation turned up at the scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s murder.  Ever since the failure of the operation and its connection to Brian Terry’s murder went public, the Department of Justice, led by US Attorney General Eric Holder, has obstructed the congressional investigation and retaliated against whistleblowers.  The resolution cites Mr. Holder’s lack of control and oversight over Fast and Furious, the deadly consequences of Fast and Furious for both Mexico and the United States, and the role of the Attorney General’s office in impeding the congressional investigation.
