On Aug. 16, a Loveland police officer responded to a 911 call at a residence. Further information has been released by the Critical Incident Response Team surrounding the incident.

The Loveland Police Department has named Officer Eddie Luzon as the responding officer who was involved in the contact and shooting at the incident. Luzon was the officer sent in response to a 911 call from a family member of a man who is believed to have been having a mental health crisis.

According to an updated release from CIRT, the man has been identified as 19-year-old Alexander Domina. A family member in his home made the 911 call requesting police assistance as Domina was damaging the home.

The CIRT says Officer Luzon made contact with Domina in the backyard of the residence. Domina is reported to have been armed with a knife. After making verbal contact, Domina allegedly moved forward toward Officer Luzon after a confrontation in the conversation. That is when Officer Luzon fired his duty weapon and struck Domina.

In light of the investigation, Officer Luzon has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Loveland Police Department. Officer Luzon is said to have been with the Loveland Police Department since 2019.

KDVR first reported on the newly released information after they spoke with Domina's family's attorney before it was officially released from the CIRT. KDVR quoted the family's attorney claiming Domina is developmentally disabled and that his grandmother allegedly told the officers he could be talked down from his mental health crisis.
