Authorities Respond to Oil and Gas Fire Near Loveland Sunday Morning

According to Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, that black smoke you saw in the air off South County Road 11 over the weekend was a fire at an oil and gas facility.

Loveland Fire and Berthoud Fire tag-teamed the response to the fire and had the flames out in 15 minutes. Luckily, as the fire happened Sunday, Oct. 3, early in the morning, no workers were on the scene when the fire broke out.

In addition to the two fire crews, the oil and gas company also arrived at the fire to assist in extinguishing the flames. They were able to shut down the system and diminish the excess gas pressure that was presumably just feeding the fire.

No injuries were reported from the incident, and the grounds have been turned back over to the oil and gas company.

In 2020, only 4% of Loveland Fire Rescue Authority's major incidents were explosions or hazmat fires, according to their 2020 annual report.

70% of the calls they responded to were EMS or technical rescue calls.
