Names Cheyenne, WY a Top 10 City for Veterans
Website lists best cities for military veterans and their families to call home.

Franklin, Tenn. — In honor of Veterans Day, has selected the 10 best places for military veterans to live – whether they are looking to retire or start a second career.

Cities were chosen based on quality-of-life attributes that appeal to veterans such as moderate climate, low cost of living and unemployment rate, as well as availability of outdoor recreational opportunities and cultural amenities. Additional consideration was given to cities with proximity to military installations and VA hospitals.

“We know it’s important for veterans and their families to have access to quality medical care and social services,” says John Hood, spokesman, “so we chose cities with excellent health-care systems and VA hospitals. The cities on this list also tend to be more diverse, have excellent school systems and higher education options and greater opportunities for post-military employment.”

Hood says editors also looked at cities close to military bases, which give veterans access to other resources such as free legal advice and counseling, discounted food and household goods at the base commissary, and equipment rentals.

“One thing all 10 cities have in common is their inclusive nature and a proven history of community support for military families,” Hood says.

Cheyenne, WY is such a city. Just 90 miles from Denver, Cheyenne offers both the romantic setting of the Wild West and the sophistication of a vibrant city. The climate in Cheyenne is semi-arid, with an average summer high around 80 degrees and a winter low of 11. No state income tax, low property taxes and a low cost of living make this city attractive to military veterans on a fixed income. Advanced educational opportunities and career training at Laramie County Community College and The University of Wyoming help give young veterans the skills they need to find good jobs. Veterans have access to the commissary and exchange at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and to medical care at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center. Read more.
