LCSD1 Superintendent Issues Statement on McCormick Fliers
Officials are still working to determine who posted homophobic, racist fliers at Cheyenne's McCormick Junior High School Wednesday.
Laramie County School District 1 Superintendent Dr. Boyd Brown issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:
In the midst of an investigation regarding inappropriate flyers that were posted at McCormick Junior High yesterday, Laramie County School District 1 is offering support to our LGBTQ and black students who were reportedly targeted through the incident. In addition, we have increased supervision at school when students are not in class. District administration is investigating the situation to determine if it is isolated or part of a larger cultural issue. When the investigation is complete, administrators will follow LCSD1 policies and procedures.
In the meantime, staff members at McCormick Junior High plan to use this as a learning opportunity.
We will work with the students and parents involved and provide support. Our priority is helping these students and their families, as we want every student to feel safe in our schools. In the meantime, we will continue to work on instilling in our students the importance of being caring, tolerant individuals both inside and outside of the school environment.
