The Wyoming Highway Patrol announced Thursday that it's moving its academy to Laramie County Community College.

Sgt. Jeremy Beck says the college will offer a long-term facility for the patrol at cost savings compared to its current academy location at Camp Guernsey.

"Having the WHP academy at LCCC will enable the patrol to build partnerships and seize outreach opportunities," Beck said in a news release.

"The WHP will interact with members of the LCCC criminal justice program, student-athletes and the general student population," Beck added. "This will have a positive impact on WHP’s recruiting efforts, community relations and law enforcement’s relationship with students and staff of LCCC."

Beck says having the academy based in Cheyenne will also allow cadets to have access to the WHP Cheyenne firearms range and the emergency vehicle operations road course.
