Large Hail, Damaging Winds, Heavy Rain, Tornado Possible In SE Wyoming
The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says strong to severe storms are possible in southeast Wyoming today,
Hazards could include damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and possibly a tornado. The agency says that while a twister is not likely, it "cannot be ruled out.''
The agency issued a special weather statement this morning which included the following:
- ''A conditional threat for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
- Strongest storm timing is 2-7 PM MDT, but storms may linger through this evening.Primary hazards include large hail (quarter to golf ball size) and damaging winds (60+ mph), but a tornado cannot be ruled out.
- Severity of hazards will heavily depend on how far east the low-level moisture sets up later today. Heavy rain with localized flash flooding is possible.''
The following was posted on that agency's website:
There is an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for western Nebraska with a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for much of the remaining area. Large hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and a tornado or two cannot be ruled out today, with the highest tornado threat over the Nebraska Panhandle. Storms are expected between 2 and 7pm, with convection likely continuing into the evening and overnight hours west of I-25. Stay weather aware today and have multiple ways to receive warnings!
