The Laramie County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens not to fall for a warrant scam in which callers try to solicit money from people for missing jury duty.

Lt. Don Hollingshead says someone claiming to be with the department's warrants division is calling people telling them that there is a warrant out for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty.

"Normally they ask you to pay with a money order or one of those Green Dot cards, but we don't do that," said Hollinghead.

"If we are looking for somebody on a warrant, we'll either contact them and ask them to turn themselves in or we'll just pick them up," he added. "There is no request for money, that's completely through the courts."

Hollingshead says the number the scammers are calling from shows up as a Wyoming number and when you call back the message says that you've reached the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.

He urges anyone who receives a call like this not to give out their personal or financial information.
