Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Arrest Warrant Scam
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of a phone scam in which someone claiming to be with the department tells people they have warrants out for their arrest.
Lt. Don Hollingshead says the scammer asks the victim to purchase multiple Green Dot or Steam cards and to give them the numbers as bond payment.
"If we are looking for somebody on a warrant, we'll either contact them and ask them to turn themselves in or we'll just pick them up," said Hollingshead. "There is no request for money, that's completely through the courts."
The Sheriff's Office is asking grocery stores to be aware of the scam and to notify customers who are purchasing large numbers of Green Dot or Steam cards of it as well.
Hollingshead says if you’ve lost money to a scam and need to file a report, you can call (307) 637-6524 to speak with a deputy.
