Laramie County School District#1: New School Year Underway
Monday, August 26 is the first day of classes in Laramie County School District#1.
You can see the district calendar for the entire year here.
The school year runs through Wednesday, June 4. The first holiday of the school year is in just a few days, Labor Day on Sept. 2. Multi-day school vacations include Thanksgiving on November 27-29th, Christmas, Dec. 3 through Jan. 3, and Spring Break, which rns from April 1-4. Students get several other days off either as single-day vacation days or due to staff days. In Wyoming winter weather is also a constant possible disruption, although the district has gone to virtual learning days, with students taking lessons via computer for those days.
LCSD#1 Likely To Be The Largest In Wyoming Again
Enrollment figures for the new school year won't be available for a few days. But as of June 10 the district was the largest in Wyoming with about 14,000 students.
Cheyenne Police on Monday posted a safety reminder for motorists in school zones:
"Today is LCSD1’s first day of school. Please slow down and drive with extra caution around our schools. Officers will be out this morning patrolling our school zones helping to keep our kids safe."
It's also worth noting that Wyoming school buses are equiiped with cameras, and traffic tickets for school bus traffic violations are the only time Wyoming motorists can get a traffic citation on the basis of a video recording.
Classes in Laramie County School District#2 have already been underway for a week. You can see the LCSD#2 calendar here. It's worth noting that LCSD#2 has been on a four-day a week class schedule for several years, with schools open on Friday most weeks for student enrichment days.
