UPDATE: LCCC Board Candidate Responds To Sex Offender Allegations

UPDATE: Anthony Lee Schmidt has responded to the allegations made by the Laramie County GOP about his being a sex offender.

Here is the bulk of his response:

I am in fact a registered sex offender. I have owned up for and paid my debit to the state for the horrible choices that I had made 22 years ago. I have served my sentence and have done what is required of me to pay my debit to the state. I know several people will only look this part of my past and not the who I am today. I do not blame anyone but myself for those actions and have no excuse for them. All I can do is move forward and serve our community to the best of my ability. I understand that some are skeptical of my motivations for seeking public office and justifiably so. All I can do is show our community that people can grow and learn from the choses from their past and return to a regular law abiding life. I will always regret and remember my past. I have learned what I must do to stay a law abiding part of this community.

Furthermore, I do find it very hypocritical that the Laramie County Republican Party condemns my candidacy so strongly when the very standard bearer former president trump has been found liable for sexual assault by a jury has been convicted of 34 felony counts and it's still awaiting adjudication on another 50 counts. There are also several other allegations of sexual misconduct by the former president yet there is only silence about this issue from the Laramie County Republican Party.. 

ORIGINAL POST: The Laramie County Republican Party has released a statement on a candidate for the Laramie County Community Board of Trustees, Anthony Schmidt.

The statement was posted on the LCGOP Facebook page:

Townsquare Media of Cheyenne has emailed Anthony Lee Schmidt at the email address listed on the Laramie County Clerk website to get his response to the allegations.

He did not immediately respond to the email.

The Wyoming DCI Sex Offender Registry does show a listing for an Anthony Schmidt, at the address listed by the Laramie County Clerk for the Anthony Lee Schmidt who is running for the LCCC Board of Trustees.
