Laramie County Deputies Arrest Car Theft Suspect Following Chase
A 38-year-old man suspected of stealing a car was arrested by Laramie County Sheriff's Deputies on Sunday afternoon following a pursuit and a search of a local business where he was hiding, according to a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Brandon Warner says the incident started a little before 2:30 p.m. when deputies spotted a stolen vehicle with two male occupants leaving the Cheyenne Motel. A deputy following the vehicle was able to confirm that the car had been reported stolen.
The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Adam Ruhaak, pulled over briefly around East 9th Street and Crook Avenue. Deputies were giving commands to the men inside the car when Ruhaak suddenly sped away.
Deputies followed in hot pursuit but lost sight of the vehicle after less than a mile. They soon got a tip that he was hiding at the Polaris Rehabilitation Care Center. Deputies searched the facility with help from officers of the Cheyenne Police Department. it was soon discovered that Ruhaak had gone out of a window, and he was soon found in a backyard about two blocks west of the care center. He was arrested at about 2:35 p.m.
Warner says Ruhaak was booked on the following charges:
- Motor vehicle theft (Felony)
- Suspended driver’s license
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Interference with a Peace Officer
- Criminal Entry
The other male in the vehicle was found not to have been involved in the the and was released without charges.
In the news release. Warner thanked the Cheyenne Police Department, Polaris Rehabilitation and the public for their help in apprehending Ruhaak.
