Kansas Man Gets 3-5 Years in Pot Bust Near Cheyenne
A 35-year-old Kansas City man has been sentenced to three to five years in prison after Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers discovered 70 pounds of pot in his SUV.
Haywood Madison and his passenger, 34-year-old Keith Carter of Gardner, Kansas, were arrested on November 11 after a trooper stopped them for going 94 mph in a posted 75 mph zone on Interstate 80 about ten miles west of Cheyenne.
A search of the SUV revealed approximately 70 pounds of marijuana, 100 electronic-cigarette cartridges loaded with THC oil and $2,400 in cash. The seized marijuana and THC oil had an estimated street value of $290,000.
Madison and Carter were charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, felony possession of marijuana and felony possession of THC liquid. Madison was also charged with speeding.
As part of a plea deal in Madison's case, everything but the felony possession of marijuana charge was dropped.
Court records indicate Carter's case is still pending.
