Jeff Hamilton Jazz Trio Performs at UW Thursday
The Jeff Hamilton Jazz Trio Among The Guest Artists And Clinicians At The University’s Jazz Festival Thursday and Friday
LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming Department of Music and UW Presents are partnering to showcase the Jeff Hamilton Trio at 7:30 p.m. on the first day of the festival, Thursday, March 14, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.
Originality is what Hamilton, a versatile drummer, brings to the groups he performs with and is one of the reasons why he is constantly in demand. He has received rave reviews for his dynamic drumming performances.
“The Jeff Hamilton Trio was selected as this year’s UW Jazz Festival headliner due to Hamilton’s reputation as a band co-leader in the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, as well as Hamilton’s extensive career in the industry,” says Philip Moline, UW Presents director.
“The trio comprises the rhythm section of the orchestra and is a great way to feature such a renowned artist for the students attending the festival, as well as for the university and Laramie communities,” Moline says.
The Jeff Hamilton Trio has released eight albums since 1994. The trio’s first album, “It’s Hamilton Time,” reached No. 5 on the Gavin national jazz radio chart. The trio’s second album, “Jeff Hamilton Trio -- LIVE!” was nominated for best jazz recording in Germany in 1997.
Tickets may be ordered online at uwyo.edu/finearts or by calling 307-766-6666. Tickets are $15 for the public; $12 for senior citizens and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students, and are also available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk.
Each year, UW Presents brings a variety of internationally known performers to campus, often at ticket prices much lower than at larger venues. This season features five performances during the spring semester.
The two remaining performances in the spring are the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain Tuesday, April 9; and pianist Daniel Hsu Friday, May 3.
