Now, I'm not talking about "good for you" in the wishy-washy way that a fast food restaurant offers a salad branded as "healthy" because the fried chicken is on a bed of lettuce. And I'm not talking about a plain, bland old chicken breast with broccoli.

I'm talking burgers, fries, pizza, and macaroni and cheese.

Introducing Cheyenne's Clean Eatz Kitchen

You heard me - homestyle favorites and fast-food commodities...but good for you. Introducing Clean Eatz, a restaurant that began in 2013 with the mission of providing a healthy alternative to eating out. The franchise has grown from one location in Wilmington, NC, to over 85+ locations nationwide.

For Cheyenne's Clean Eatz owner Gary Shaklee, the opening of Clean Eatz marks the culmination of a year-long building project in Cheyenne. "It's been over a year in the making, from an empty shell to making it a reality," said Gary. He and his team of all-local employees have been "grinding away" to prepare the restaurant for Cheyenne.

Gary hasn't spent much of his life in the food industry. In fact, I had to wonder why a former Fort Collins Police Sergeant decided to open a restaurant in the first place.

But to Gary, the transition was anything but odd. He and his wife were patrons of Clean Eatz in Johnstown, Colorado, and over many delicious meals there, he found that he liked what Clean Eatz was all about.

Clean Eatz is a company Gary can "stand up and stand tall in front of," the former FCPD officer said. The company prides itself on creating affordable, nutritious meals that taste delicious for their communities. What's more, they offer meal options for individuals with dietary restrictions - gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb, extra protein, and more.

What's a Meal Look Like at Clean Eatz?

Clean Eatz packs a punch when it comes to their meal offerings. You can enjoy a freshly made lunch or dinner at the restaurant or pick up one of the grab-n-go options to heat up later. They even craft healthy, macro-balanced meal prep options - similar to a meal subscription service, except you don't pay a subscription fee for a whole month of food...you opt-in for meals when and if you want them the following week.

I decided to try the bison burger and was not disappointed. It was perfectly cooked, and the sweet potato fries were delicious. My husband tried a Build-Your-Own chicken bowl with Thai peanut sauce (and a side of sweet potato fries for himself). He called his meal and the cafe "amazing." Our two meals, including a beverage, cost around $25.

The Clean Eatz Menu

Clean Eatz offers a little bit of everything - from Asian-inspired cuisine to American classics. The menu does change to incorporate new foods but typically features fare like bison burgers (bonus: they cost under $14 per burger,) DIY bowls, pizza, wraps, and more. They even sell their own brand of clean (read: no additives or weird chemicals) spices, protein shakes, and fudge. Check out the cafe menu here.
