I've had some of my most memorable Wyoming adventures in the Laramie Peak area, and if you've never spent time camping, hiking, fishing, or hunting there, you're missing out. It's absolutely incredible to see what is waiting for you around every corner.

One of the highlights is Friend Park Campground, near the Laramie Peak trailhead, and a great base camp for your adventures. The park has 11 campsites, vault toilets, water, and very little phone service. So, it's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

To keep a campground like this clean and ready for campers to come in and relax, the Forest Service has camp hosts who tend to campgrounds, keep them clean, and answer questions campers or hikers may have.

According to the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, being a host can be quite fulfilling.

Campground hosting is a rewarding volunteer experience that gets people outside and serving the public. Positions are volunteer based with a small stipend. Host duties include answering questions, helping campers, posting reservations, as well as ensuring campsites and restrooms are kept in clean condition. Hosts keep campgrounds running smoothly, contributing to an enjoyable recreation experience for visitors. The season typically runs from early summer to late fall, with flexibility on start and end dates.

Opportunities like this may not be for someone with a full-time job, but if you're retired and love being outdoors, this is right up your alley. There are three other opportunities in the Laramie Peak area: Campbell Creek, Curtis Gulch, and Esterbrook.
