Cowgirl Tennis Blanks Northern Iowa, 4-0

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., – The Wyoming Cowgirls made quick work of Northern Iowa Saturday in a neutral contest, closing the week at 2-0 in the state of South Dakota. UW defeated the Panthers, 4-0.

Once again, the Cowgirls (7-3) swept all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Silver Bijlsma and Violetta Borodina won 6-3. At No. 2, it was the team of Eugenia Ceinos and Madlena Orlova taking the win, 6-4. Finally at the third spot, the tandem of Serina Abriola and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia took care of business, 6-2.

In singles, Wyoming got three straight-set victories. Bijlsma won 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 2. At the third spot, Borodina won 6-3, 6-1. While at No. 6, it was another smashing victory from Abriola as she didn’t surrender a set, winning 6-0, 6-0. The Cowgirls were also leading in the other three singles matches before those went unfished after the Brown & Gold clinched the dual win.

The Cowgirls are now off for a few weeks as they will next open conference play at home, beginning March 13 against Utah State.

Every state in our nation has chosen things that represent the state in one way or another to be official state things. Like a flower, or animal. Wyoming is no different.

The Equality State, or the Cowboy State, depending on which state slogan you want to go with, has a state flower. But did you know we also have a state tree and a state fish? Yes, we even have a state code.

To be an official thing, a member of the state legislature must write and submit a bill to the legislature declaring that a thing will be the official state thing. Then the legislature votes to pass the bill, or not, if it passes, the governor signs the bill into law and we have a new official state thing.
