LARAMIE -- The Colorado State basketball program is going back to the Wyoming well.

Ali Farokhmanesh and the school announced Thursday the hiring of longtime college assistant Chris Haslam, who suited up for the Border War rival Cowboys in the mid-90s under Joby Wright.

Haslam spent the previous two seasons at Oregon State, coming over from a Utah State program that was fresh off a 28-win campaign, including a victory in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to that lone year in Logan, Haslam was on the sidelines at Montana State for a decade under head coaches Brian Fish and Danny Sprinkle.

Haslam, a native of Southport England, will step into the vacated role of former Wyoming assistant Ken DeWeese, who earlier this month accepted the head coach position at Colorado Mesa after spending two seasons in Fort Collins.

"Chris is a veteran coach with a long history of finding and developing big men over his career. That ability to develop players has helped him be successful at every stop," Farokhmanesh told csurams.com. "We are excited to welcome Chris and his family to the Ramily as we enter the Pac-12 era."

Haslam appeared in 92 games for Wyoming from 1993-97, averaging 2.3 points a night. The 6-foot-11 center started a career-high 22 games for the Cowboys during his sophomore season, sharing a frontcourt with future NBA standout Theo Ratliff.

HL Coleman, Ladrell Whitehead and Bobby Traylor also helped lead UW to a fourth-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference, the highest mark of the Wright era in Laramie.

Haslam netted a career-best 4.1 points and nearly five rebounds a night the following year. Injuries limited the big man to just 18 games as a senior. He capped his career with a 5-3 overall record against the Rams.

"This is bitter sweet," current Wyoming assistant and former college teammate Chris McMillian penned on X. "Chris Haslam now wearing the green and white. Happy for my friend, disappointed we have to not like each other one time per year. Salute to a legend."

After completing his career in Laramie, Haslam played 13 years of professional basketball overseas, making stops in Greece, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Great Britain, as well as a decade-long stint with the British National Team.

CSU will join the reimagined Pac-12 on July 1, joining four other Mountain West defectors: Boise State, Utah State, Fresno State and San Diego State. Both Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks and Farokhmanesh have expressed a desire to continue playing the annual Border War, a rivalry tilt that dates back to 1911.

The Cowboys hold a 139-106 advantage in the overall series, including a 31-game winning streak over the Rams from 1940-51.
