The Wyoming Legislature's Joint Revenue Interim Committee voted to sponsor a proposed bill that would create a task force to study how minerals are taxed in Wyoming.

Jonathan Downing, Executive Director of the Wyoming Mining Association, says the organization supports the purpose of the bill because Wyoming's minerals assessment system is one of the most complicated in the country.

We hope that this will help simplify the tax code. Make it easier for companies to pay their taxes to the State of Wyoming, and do so in a manner that is revenue neutral.

The bill now moves on to  be considered by the full legislature when it convenes in January.
