House Joint Resolution Bill - HJ0002 is set to propose to amend the Wyoming Constitution thus eliminating the elected office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and make the position appointed.

Another rendition of the controversial SF104 or the "Hill Bill", which was ruled unconstitutional by the Wyoming Supreme Court, thus eliminating the elected office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, is set to debut in the Wyoming Legislature this session.

The bill would eliminate the position effective January 7, 2019. This would also remove the state superintendent as an ex officio member of the University of Wyoming board of trustees and from the board of land commissioners on or after the January 7, 2019 deadline.

If this were to pass and a constitutional amendment made, it would turn the supervision of the Wyoming Public Schools over to be as prescribed by the legislature.

For more information on the bill, you may contact House Education Committee Chairman - John Patton at 307-752-0496 or email him at: john.patton@wyoleg.gov.
