The HollyFrontier Corporation recently announced a matching donation of up to $25,000 for a ''Universally Acceptable" playground at Cahill Park in Cheyenne.

The playground, to be known as the Friendship Playground, will feature playground equipment that children who face physical challenges as well as other children can easily use.

Not only will the equipment offer children with various disabilities the chance to play, it will keep them from being segregated from other kids and help limit the social stigma they may face for being "different." Mayor Rick Kaysen says that while he's not sure of the exact amount of the $25,000 that has been matched so far, people have been donating and he is hopeful the donations will match the entire $25,000 before long.

The mayor says a number of other Cheyenne civic organizations and companies have already donated to the Friendship Playground project over the past year, including such organizations as the Kiwanis Club, Charter Communications and Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power (now known as Black Hills Energy).

The total cost of phase I of the Friendship Playground project is estimated at around $375,000, and the mayor says based on current fundraising he is hoping ground can be broken on the project by late this Summer, or maybe even sooner. People can donate to the fundraising effort on Gofundme.
