The 2025 holiday season is fast approaching.

Halloween is next week..

Then it's right on into November, with Thanksgiving. Turkey, football, family gatherings. The then the Christmas season, with shopping, holiday parties, Christmas trees, eggnog. It all wraps up with New Years Day, 2026. More football and family gatherings. Maybe some adult beverages and reminiscing about the year that was and looking forward to the year that will be.

Like anything in life, the holidays have plusses and minuses.

What's Good About The Holiday Season

Most of us have have happy memories of the holidays at some point in our lives. a warm, happy place we remember and cherish.

After all, it's a time to enjoy great food, lots of football and time off from work. A time to give thanks and try to enjoy the good things. For religious folks, Christmas in particular is a deeply special time, But even for more secular people, the idea of gathering around the tree and opening presents has a strong appeal. It's uplifting to be able to wish people "Merry Christmas.'' And maybe even do something nice for a total stranger. Because, well, it's Christmas

Not to mention the food. the good times and the company of people we love.

And for parents of young children, Christmas has a special magic.

Love them or hate them, the holidays are like no other time of year.

What isn't So Great About The Holidays

We all have an idea of how we THINK the holidays will be. But real life is not a Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie or a Norman Rockwell painting. For a lot of folks, the holidays are expensive, stressful and often times, disappointing.

Even lonely and depressing.

For families already struggling to cope with the high cost of living and inflation, there is the added pressure of Christmas shopping. The same parents we mentioned a moment ago may feel the weight of the world in trying to give their kids the perfect Christmas on a real life budget that may be stretched to the limit.

Then there are the family gatherings. Sometimes we remember we don't really like Uncle Bill all that much. Throw a little alcohol into the mix, and things can get ugly.

There is also the fact that not everyone has a family. There is no lonely quite like being lonely  on Christmas Day.

So how do you really feel about the holidays? Take our poll and give us your opinion!
