The Denver Department of Public Health and environment (DDPHE) has ordered the closure of the United State Postal facility that handles all mail for Colorado and Wyoming.

According to 9 News, the DDPHE has issued a public health order calling for the closure of the USPS Distribution Center located at 7550 E. 53rd Place in Denver. The decision was made after the health department investigated reports that five employees of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. The distribution center employs 1,800 people.

Fox 31 is reporting that the order demands that the facility close until the following measures are completed:

  • The facility receives a complete disinfection of all surfaces with an approved COVID-19 disinfectant
  • COVID-19 control measures are implemented
  • Control plans and procedures for how the facility will implement COVID-19 control measures and comply with the public health order are submitted in writing to DDPHE

As of Thursday (May 21), according to the USPS Colorado's Twitter, the Post Office Distribution Center is not complying with the closure:

The DDPHE says the USPS center is not cooperating properly, and issued a closure notice to the facility on May 14.

This is a developing story.
