Governor Mead: State Working to Add Value to Minerals

Governor Matt Mead says instead of shipping all of the state's mineral wealth out of state, officials are beginning the process of trying to figure out how to add value to the state's natural resources.The governor says one idea is developing an industrial park similar to Alberta, Canada's Industrial Heartland Hydrocarbon Processing region, which includes 40+ companies that provide fuels, fertilizers, power, petrochemicals and more to provincial and global consumers. 

Ours may not be that big. But the idea is if you have water, you have trona, we are number one in trona, number one in bentonite, we have rare earth elements, oil, gas, coal uranium. Those are the kind of things we ought to be looking at to maximize how to add value to those products.

The governor says after consulting with the legislature, he will appoint three task forces to investigate possible opportunities.
