Fort Collins Police Officer Charged With Attempted Sexual Exploitation Of A Child
A 31-year-old Fort Collins Police Officer is facing charges of sexual exploitation of a child as well as official misconduct charges after allegedly acting inappropriately during an official police investigation.
That's according to a post on the Fort Collins Police Services Facebook page.
Woman Claims Officer "Made Inappropriate Requests"
According to the post, the investigation of Andrew Cirone started in October when a woman contacted Fort Collins Police Services to say that Cirone had "made inappropriate requests" to her adult daughter for explicit images from when she was a juvenile.
The allegations led to an internal investigation. Meanwhile, Cirone was assigned to other duties where he would not have contact with the public.
According to the post: "The internal investigation revealed potential criminal components, and so a criminal investigation was also initiated. FCPS thoroughly reviewed witness statements, body worn camera footage, case reports, and other evidence and found Cirone had failed on multiple occasions to adhere to standard investigative procedures outlined by FCPS policy and Colorado Revised Statutes. On December 30, Cirone was placed on paid administrative leave and detectives continued follow-up for additional evidence in the case."
The post says Cirone turned himself into the Larimer County Jail on February 4, and was booked on the following charges:
