Fort Collins Pot Shop ‘Adopts’ Interstate 25
Here's something you'll only see in Colorado. Organic Alternatives, a recreational marijuana dispensary in Fort Collins, has officially "adopted" a portion of Interstate 25 between exits 268 and 269.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, groups participating in the "Adopt a Highway" highway program are subject to approval.
In exchange for a sign that recognizes their efforts, each sponsoring group is required to remove litter from a two-mile streach of the Interstate at least four times per year.
For pot shops like Organic Alternatives, the program offers a unique avenue for promoting an industry that is saddled with advertising regulations.
Although they have been allowed to participate in the Adopt a Highway program, marijuana dispensaries cannot legally recieve tax credits for their charitiable contributions.
