What's your favorite part of Cheyenne's annual Superday?

This Saturday, June 27, the City of Cheyenne and HollyFrontier Corporation present the 33rd annual Superday in Lions Park. There will be lots to do for people of all interests and ages throughout the day, here are some of my favorite parts.

1. Car Show: The first place I usually stop at Superday is the Show & Shine Car Show with all the gleaming chrome of the classic vehicles attracting your attention as you stroll into Lions Park from the west side C lot. Cars and trucks of all kinds and eras are parked along Carey Avenue and you can vote for the 'People's Choice' and 'Kid's Choice' Awards.

This year they will also be having Hot Wheels Car Races for kids under 12 around this same area. And the kids get to keep the Hot Wheels cars they pick out to race.

2. Music: Another highlight of each year's Superday is all the great free local musical entertainment. There will be two stages set up, the Beach Stage and the Forestry Stage, both providing a full day's worth of acts. Here's a look at the 2015 lineup:

Beach Stage:

  • Warren-classic and country rock-10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • New Image-spanish, country and oldies-11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
  • 6 Grand-rock, country and blues-1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Black, White & Blues Band-R&B and classic rock-3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Forestry Stage:

  • Adolescent Behavior-alternative rock-10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Todd Dereemer-original Americana-11:45 to 1:15 p.m.
  • Steve Gilmore-acoustic Americana-1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Banjaxed-classic rock & roll-3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Food: The food court at Superday is another place not to be missed. It's located in the parking lot just south of Sloans Lake and includes choices from Pioneer Barbeque's turkey legs to Domino's Pizza. They even have funnel cakes if you want to get a head start on Cheyenne Frontier Days.

4. Duck Derby: The 11th Annual Million Dollar Duck Derby begins at 2 p.m. near the Brimmer Amphitheatre and gives you a chance at winning prize money just by donating to buy a rubber duck. The $5 goes toward Special Friends and if your duck happens to be the right one at the end, you could win the grand prize of a million dollars. There's also other cash prizes offered of $250, $500 and $1,000.

5. Shopping: Every year at Superday it seems the number of arts & crafts vendors gets bigger and better. There's always a unique and eclectic mix of items for sale. Many of the first years I went to Superday, my daughter was just a baby and I would buy wooden animal puzzles for her and I could find different ones each year.
