Fireplace Maker Earthcore Breaks Ground On Cheyenne Facility
Fireplace maker Earthcore Industries broke ground on Thursday on what will eventually be a distribution center near Cheyenne.
The facility will be located on the Clear Creek Parkway, not far south of Cheyenne.
When completed, the center will measure about 30,000 square feet and will employ roughly a dozen people. Company Founder and CEO Carl Spadaro says Earthcore manufactures and distributes fireplaces for Isokern. The Cheyenne center will do some assembly and will distribute the fireplaces and accessories for people in the northwest and upper midwestern states.
What Is Special About Isokern Fireplaces?
Spadaro says the fireplaces are made using volcanic ash, or pumice, mined from the Hekla volcano in Iceland. The pumice is then shipped to Chesapeake, Virginia, where an automated factory makes modular, lightweight fireproof components for fireplaces, chimneys and accessories. Spadaro says one advantage of the fireplaces is that the material reflects heat, meaning they can heat a home far more effectively than other types of fireplaces. He says the Isokern chimneys ae impervious to chimney fires "because it's a clean burning system."
You can hear the entire interview with Carl Spaduro in the audio file attached to this article.
Spadaro says Cheyenne was chosen for the center because it is economical to operate here and because it has access to Interstates 80 and 25. It's also close to Denver, but more economical than building and operating the same facility would be in Denver.
Spadaro says if all goes as planned, the new facility will be completed by about the end of the year and should be operational by 2025.
The facility is being built by Richardson Construction.
