A 22-year-old Wyoming man is dead after rear-ending a semi on Interstate 80, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

Crash Details

The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at milepost 31.3 in Unita County, west of Lyman.

According to a fatality crash summary, a Freightliner combination unit was westbound in the right lane, while a Toyota was approaching the semi from behind.

"The Toyota's driver's side struck the Freightliner's passenger side near the bottom-right access step," the summary reads. "The Toyota skidded along the rear portion of the passenger’s side of the trailer before leaving the roadway to the right."

Despite reportedly being buckled up, the driver of the Toyota, Caleb Gooding, didn't survive his injuries. The trucker was uninjured.

Fatal Crash Statistics

There have been 16 reported fatal crashes in Wyoming this year, resulting in 19 deaths.

Of those fatal crashes, four have occurred in Uinta County.
