Wyoming Truck Driver Dead After Rig Goes Down Steep Embankment

A Wyoming truck driver is dead after rolling his rig in Sublette County, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

It happened around 12:04 p.m. on Monday, June 16, near milepost 8.8 on Wyoming 351, east of Marbleton.

According to a fatality crash summary, 37-year-old Dale Simkin was headed east in a belly dump truck, which was fully loaded with road base, when he drifted off the south side of the highway.

Simkin reportedly tried to steer back onto the highway but could not recover.

"The loaded trailer traveled down a steep embankment and tipped over onto its right side, spilling its load into the south ditch," the summary reads. "The vehicle struck a ditch and culvert, which caused it to flip again before coming to rest on the driver's side facing east."

Sadly, Simkin, who was not wearing his seat belt, did not survive his injuries.

The summary says it was clear, and the highway was dry at the time of the crash, but it does not list any possible contributing factors.

Simkin is the 44th reported person to die on Wyoming's highways this year.
