Surgery Was Conducted On Sunday
The statement notes that among his injuries is a spine injury, which has left him paralyzed from the middle of the back down.
The family says he had surgery on his spine "to try and stabilize the damaged section with rods and screws, removed a blood clot that was pushing against the spinal cord and removed some of the bone fragments to make room for the spinal cord. The hope is that he will be able to get more and more feeling in his legs and that motor skills will follow. Last night he was able to feel a little bit which we are finding hopeful. When I say a little bit, I mean that if you pinch his foot hard he can feel it. Another encouragement is that he is able to move his stomach muscles enough so that we can feel it when we lay our hand on his stomach."
The family says he also suffered a collapsed lung which seems to recovering well and a broken ankle which may need surgery at some point
Dylan's older brother Carson is a detective with the Laramie Police Department. The family thanked the many members of the LPD who have offered their support, as well as the many community members who have expressed their support, the firefighter's union Ivinson Memorial Hospital, members of the Albany County Sheriff's Office, and others who have been supportive and offered prayers for Dylan's recovery.
