The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of a 63-year-old Colorado man who allegedly caused a heavy law enforcement response by falsely reporting a stabbing.

According to a post on the sheriff's office Facebook page, Danny Hoff of Weldona, Colorado, placed a 911 call around 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. The call prompted sheriff's deputies and Cheyenne Police to respond to the area of College Dr. and South Greeley Highway in force with lights and sirens activated.

That response, in turn, prompted members of the public to contact law enforcement with questions and concerns about what was happening.

But when deputies started investigating, it turned out there had been no stabbing. Hoff was arrested on several charges:

• Filing a False Report
• Reckless Endangering
• Interference with a Peace Officer
• Unlawful Use of 911

False Crime Reports Are No Joke

The post goes on to say, "Emergency response resources are vital to keeping our community safe. False calls not only divert critical law enforcement and first responder resources away from real emergencies, but they also put our officers and the public at risk during emergency responses."
