Traffic Stop on I-25 Near Cheyenne Leads to Marijuana, Meth
A 41-year-old Commerce City, Colorado man is facing drug possession charges following a Labor Day traffic stop south of Cheyenne.
16 MPH Over the Speed Limit
According to a booking sheet, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was conducting a stationary patrol near mile marker 3.5 on Interstate 25 at about 9:23 a.m. Monday, when he clocked a northbound Kia Stinger traveling 91 mph in the 75-mph zone.

The trooper caught up to the car and conducted a traffic stop, and contacted the driver and passenger, who were later identified with Colorado driver's licenses.
Smell of Marijuana Leads to K-9 Sniff, Search
The trooper says while he was speaking with the occupants, he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the car, so he requested a K-9 unit, and the dog confirmed a positive indication of the odor.
While having the occupants exit the car, the trooper says he informed the passenger, Joshua Jacob Carrizales, of the odor, and Carrizales told him he had marijuana in the passenger map pocket of the car and a backpack that might have some additional marijuana in it.
When asked about the backpack, Carrizales reportedly said he wasn't sure if he brought it with him and didn't answer what color it was, and commented, "I thought you guys can't search bags in cars."
The trooper says when he searched the car, he found the marijuana in the passenger map pocket and a black backpack in the rear seat behind the passenger's seat.
A search of the backpack reportedly revealed a clear plastic bag containing more than three grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as a pack of blue contacts matching the same color and style that Carrizales was wearing.
Carrizales Charged With Drug Possession
Carrizales was subsequently arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center and was later charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Carrizales made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court Wednesday morning, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Friday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m.
Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
