The Cheyenne Police Department's Graffiti Abatement Program has been recognized with an award from the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.

WAM  singled out the graffiti-fighting  effort with it's ''Community Hero" award during the organization's statewide convention last week in Riverton. Police spokesman Officer Dan Long says the many community partners who have helped the department in it's efforts to fight graffiti have helped make the program a success.

Long also says the department will probably have several community graffiti cleanup days again this summer, in which volunteers joint together with the department to clean up and paint over graffiti around the community. Long says that although the dates for this summer's cleanups haven't been set yet, the events were a major help last year and will likely be held again.

Long says the abatement program was launched in response to a growing graffiti problem in Cheyenne.
