A man and woman from Connecticut are behind bars after a deputy said he found 100 pounds of marijuana in their car following a traffic stop.
Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell said a sheriff's K9 team saw an eastbound Toyota Sienna Minivan driving erratically on Interstate 80 a few miles east of Point of Rocks around 10 p.m. Sunday. After the vehicle was stopped, a search of the car turned up 107.9 pounds of pot, according to the sheriff.
The driver, 60-year-old Stephen Joseph Lapoint, and his passenger, 46-year-old Maria Felicita Jurado, both of Westerfield, Conn., were arrested. Lapoint is facing several felony drug trafficking charges. Jurado has been charged with Conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.
Both were being held at the Sweetwater County Detention Center in Rock Springs at last report.
