A 19-year-old transient is behind bars after leading Cheyenne Police on a chase early on Tuesday morning, January 7, according to CPD spokeswoman Alex Farkas.

Red Light Violation Leads To Chase

Farkas says the chase started when a Cheyenne Police Officer saw a white utility van run a red light while turning onto East Pershing Boulevard. The vehicle was later found to have been stolen in Laramie, according to Farkas.

The officer tried to stop the van, but the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Gabriel Myers, a transient, refused to stop. This led to a chase in which police say Myers drove recklessly and ran several stop signs. The car chase ended when the van ran into three unoccupied vehicles near the 1400 block of West 32nd street. Myers at that point got out of the van and fled on foot.

More police officers joined the foot chase and caught up with Myers. They ordered him to the ground and he complied, allowing police to arrest him.

Myers was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to be checked for injuries. Following that he was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center. Farkas says the charges against him include the following:

Motor vehicle theft

• Reckless driving

• Fleeing/eluding

• Duty to stop after a crash

• Failure to obey traffic control signals

• Failure to stop at a stop sign

• Obstructed license plate
