Cheyenne mayor-elect Marian Orr says "opening up all lines of communication" will be her first priority when she takes office in January.

"I believe the first thing to work on and build upon is communication," said Orr. "That's working with each of the city council people to really build rapport, find out what their priorities are in this new administration and seeing what we can do to work together to make those things happen."

"With that communication also comes, of course, working with the city offices, the department heads and the individual city employees as well," Orr added.

Orr defeated Amy Surdam in Tuesday's election with 55.94 percent of the vote.

"I'm very humbled and honored to be Cheyenne's first female mayor," said Orr. "I really thank the community and look forward to working with our council and our city and the community to move forward."

Orr and the newly elected council members will be sworn in on January 3, 2017.
