The speed limit on Cheyenne's residential streets may soon be going up.

The Cheyenne City Council is considering amending a section of the city code, which would increase the blanket speed limit of 25 mph back to 30 mph.

"The original enactment of the 25 mph speed limit, which occurred in 2004, was not done in compliance with state statute," said City Engineer John Hall.

"This is an effort to amend that error," added Mayor Rick Kaysen.

"State statute says that those speed limits are 30 mph, unless there's been a speed study done," said Councilman Dr. Mark Rinne. "So what we're doing is amending out the section that decreased speed limits a while back and essentially raising our 25 mph speed limits to 30."

"We are moving forward with a city-wide speed study," said Hall.

"There are different speed limits that could be adjusted, such as on Dell Range, Pershing Boulevard and parts of Lincolnway," said Kaysen. "Collector streets and residential streets (will be) reviewed as well."

The ordinance will be on third and final reading when the council meets Monday night.
