The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce has launched a new website -- gbsdbound.com -- focused on preparing local businesses for the upcoming overhaul of F.E. Warren Air Force Base's nuclear weapons system.

"We want people to be well-informed about what's going to happen," said President and CEO Dale Steenbergen. "We want to teach our business folks how to contract with military contractors and with the government so that they can make money off of it."

Boeing and Northrop Grumman are currently vying for the $90 billion Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) project, which will replace the Air Force's fleet of Cold War-era Minuteman III missiles and modernize its command and control systems.

"This is the largest economic development project in the history of our community, perhaps in the history of Wyoming," said Steenbergen. "Several billion dollars will be expended, so we want to make sure to take as much advantage of it as we can."

Steenbergen says engineering and manufacturing development is expected to begin in 2020 and either Boeing or Northrop Grumman will be selected to champion the modernization.
