PhotoFest! Casper College Women Go 1-1 in NJCAA Hoops Tournament
The season came to an end for the Casper College women's basketball team on Thursday after an 88-80 loss to Wabash Valley, IL., in the 2nd round of the NJCAA National Tournament at the Ford Center in Casper. The T-Birds were the 15th seed in the tournament and had their hands full with Wabash Valley, who came into the postseason as the #2 seed.
Andi Schissler ended her amazing Casper College career with 34 points on 11-25 from the field, while Adama Badjie-Coly contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds. Wabash Valley had a big 1-2 punch in Shamya Reid and Beautiful Waheed, who combined for 49 points. The Warriors were ultimately eliminated in the quarterfinal round by Eastern Arizona.
Casper College opened the National Tournament with a solid 67-55 win over Salt Lake Community College on Tuesday. Adama Badjie Coly had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Birds, with Andi Schissler throwing in 17 points.
The National Tournament also marked the end of Casper College Head Coach Dwight Gunnare, who will retire after 17 seasons. He won over 450 games in Casper and made 6 straight appearances at the NJCAA Tournament. Gunnare picked up a win in last year's National Tournament and had a 4th place finish back in 2010. He had a legendary career at the junior college with over 125 wins at Miles City Community College before coming to Casper.
