60 Pounds Of Pot Seized In Wyoming I-80 Weed Bust
A 23--year-old Michigan man is facing felony drug charges after being found with over 60 pounds of marijuana following a routine traffic stop on Interstate 80, according to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell.
The sheriff said Christian Alvarez, of Garden City, Michigan was stopped about 9:30 p.m. on I-80 between Rock Springs and Green River for following too closely behind a semi tractor-trailer rig. Lowell said the deputy's K-9 partner alerted to the presence of drugs, leading to a search of the vehicle.
The sheriff says the search turned up a little over 62 pounds of pot as well as 802 individual marijuana vape cartridges and 58.5 grams of marijuana wax ''dab."
Over the past year, the agency's K9 teams have seized over half a ton of marijuana, marijuana, heroin, and meth, according to the sheriff. Alvarez is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
At last report, he was being held in the Sweetwater County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
