26 Bands Lined up for the 2019 Fridays on the Plaza

After patiently waiting for the arrival of spring and summer in Cheyenne, it looks like it may be here to stay. That means it's almost time for a Cheyenne summer tradition: Fridays on the Plaza. Lots of free live music and some exciting changes are in store for 2019.

Twenty-six bands will play between Friday, June 7 and August 30, with each concert being free and open to the public.

There are also some notable changes for this year's Fridays on the Plaza.

• There will be a larger stage presented in front of the Operations Building (northeast corner of the Plaza)
• Upgraded production quality with new lighting and audio systems
• A new VIP Garden with seating for sponsors and other community members
• A rotating variety of food vendors (announced in advance so attendees can make dinner plans)
• Additional outdoor team games (giant Jenga, cornhole, checkers, etc.)
• Improved Plaza lighting and brick pavers; and new signage through the event & Plaza

Music starts at 5:30 PM Fridays with the opening band, the evening's headliner takes the stage 7:30 PM.

Also new this year is a new non-Friday concert called Fridays EXTENDED. This concert series will feature performances from Sir Mix-A-Lot and July 20 and Thumpin’ and Boogie Machine on Cheyenne Day July 24.

Originally known in Cheyenne as Rhythm by the Rails, this 2-day concert series will be held during Cheyenne Frontier Days as an additional activity for guests in town. The City of Cheyenne says that while they are not trying to compete with the performances and rodeo events held at Frontier Park, they do want to offer community members free options that complement the excitement of CFD with events that guests can take their families to when they’re exploring downtown Cheyenne.

As with other City of Cheyenne-organized Plaza events, there will be a variety of food vendors at Fridays EXTENDED, as well as beer sales for those aged 21+. In the future, Fridays EXTENDED hopes to grow the number of opportunities for community members to gather outside during the summer.
