Cheyenne East as well as a bunch of schools were busy over the weekend at the Shane Shatto Duals in Douglas. The T-Birds went 2-5 in those duals but they didn't have their first-stringers out there all the time.

East has a 4A defending state champion in Brad Whitright who won it all last year at 220 pounds but has been at 195 so far. Landon Trujillo placed 2nd at state a year ago at 113 and returns this year at 120. Jackson Hesford is another returner who took 2nd at the state tournament and he''ll compete at 160. Blaise Ronnau and Keagam Bartlett are also back and both of those guys earned 3rd place finishes at the big dance.

We caught up with Whitright and coach Thad Trujillo about the team and the season to date. Enjoy!
