Drug use may be to blame for a deadly collision on U.S. Highway 89 near Alpine yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says a pickup was southbound at milepost 125.6, when it crossed the double yellow centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle pulling a horse trailer.

Everyone involved in the crash was taken to the hospital, but 24-year-old Ryan Coulter of Idaho, a passenger in the pickup, died at the hospital.

Several witnesses said the pickup had been passing and driving aggressively though the canyon minutes before the collision, and it appeared the driver may have been attempting to pass in a no passing zone at the point of impact.

The driver of the pickup, who the Patrol did not identify, was arrested for DWUI.
