Wes Welker Flies With The Thunderbirds [VIDEO]
The day began with Welker receiving his flight suit and several mission patches. He then he received a medical briefing from Thunderbirds Flight Surgeon Maj. Michael Carletti and an equipment briefing from TSgt. Craig Hall.
Then it was time to fly. Welker flew in the F-16 with Operations Officer Maj. Tyler Ellison, pilot of Thunderbird 7. The flight lasted for about an hour.
Maj. Ellison said that he took Welker through all of the maneuvers they do in their aerial show, including a 9 G turn and vertical roll. He said Welker did "spectacular."
Welker said it "was a lot of fun, but he doesn't think he will do it again." He said he was "pretty calm through most of it, until he started to feel the G's kick in." Welker thanked all the Thunderbird team members for getting him ready for the flight.
After missing last year due to sequestration, the Thunderbirds are back in Cheyenne for their annual Cheyenne Frontier Days show on Wednesday July 23rd. The show will get underway at 9:30 a.m.
