LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — University of Wyoming trustees have eschewed any formal search process and appointed Dick McGinity president until June 30, 2016.

Trustees hope McGinity can get UW's administrative house in order after it was thrown into disarray during President Bob Sternberg's short tenure.

Sternberg resigned Nov. 14 after less than five months on the job.

McGinity had been serving as interim president since Dec. 6.

The trustees made the decision to appoint McGinity president on a 9-3 vote Thursday following more than four hours of closed-door deliberations.

In public testimony earlier Thursday, the trustees heard plenty of advice on the president's position.

Some objected that trustees weren't following the proper procedure, which includes conferring with a committee of faculty and staff before appointing a president.
