A California man is behind bars after troopers seized over $40,000 of marijuana during a traffic stop near Evanston.

Sgt. Stephen Townsend with the Wyoming Highway Patrol says 40-year-old Timothy Heerman of Moss Beach, Calif., was taken into custody shortly after 6:00 p.m. on July 30 after being stopped 15 miles east of Evanston on Interstate 80.

Drug-sniffing dogs found over six pounds of marijuana, which has an approximate street value of $40,200, in Heerman’s trunk. Troopers also seized $1,000 cash from Heerman, which authorities believe was being used to facilitate criminal activity.

"The marijuana was destined for an unknown location in Illinois," Townsend said. "Troopers are still working with the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation to determine exactly where in Illinois it was going to be dropped off."

Heerman has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance in plant form greater than three ounces.
